Converting Hijri to Gregorian and back

How Umm al-Qura differs from a local Hijri calendar

Umm al-Qura is astronomically pre-computed and is what Saudi Arabia uses for official business, whereas other countries rely on local moon sighting. The Hijri day can therefore differ by one between countries, and what this page shows is Umm al-Qura specifically.

When do you need date conversion?

When filling government forms, recording dates of birth, computing length of service or the Zakat lunar year, identifying religious occasions, or matching a Gregorian date in a document to its Hijri equivalent.

Calculating age in Hijri years

The third mode lets you enter a Gregorian date of birth and compute age in Hijri years, months, and days up to a date you choose. This matters because the Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, so the Hijri age differs from the Gregorian one.
