GOSI Social Insurance in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) requires monthly contributions from employers and Saudi employees. The maximum contributable wage ceiling is 45,000 SAR/month.

Contribution Rates for Saudis

Employee: 9% annuities + 0.75% SANED = 9.75% total. Employer: 9% annuities + 0.75% SANED + 2% occupational hazards = 11.75% total. Calculated on basic salary + housing allowance.

For Non-Saudis

Employer pays only 2% for occupational hazards. No deduction from the non-Saudi employee's salary.

Calculation Methodology

Contributable wage

The calculator uses basic salary and housing allowance to estimate the contributable wage, applying the SAR 45,000 monthly ceiling when calculating contributions.

Calculation method

For Saudi employees, the calculator applies employee and employer rates to the contributable wage. For non-Saudis, it shows the employer-only occupational hazards cost under the general rule.

Calculation limits

This tool does not cover every special case, such as first-registration date, phased rate changes, or unusual employment contracts. Check your GOSI account or employer for final figures.

Practical Examples

Saudi Employee — 7,000 SAR Basic Salary

Ahmed is a Saudi employee with a basic salary of 7,000 SAR and housing allowance of 2,500 SAR. Contributable salary = 7,000 + 2,500 = 9,500 SAR. Employee share: 9,500 × 9% = 855 annuities + 9,500 × 0.75% = 71.25 SANED = 926.25 SAR total deduction. Employer share: 855 annuities + 71.25 SANED + 9,500 × 2% = 190 hazards = 1,116.25 SAR. Net salary = 9,500 − 926.25 = 8,573.75 SAR.

Saudi High-Earner — Exceeds 45,000 SAR Ceiling

Sara is a Saudi manager with a basic salary of 35,000 SAR and housing allowance of 12,000 SAR = 47,000 SAR. The 45,000 SAR ceiling applies, so contributions are calculated on 45,000 only. Employee share: 45,000 × 9% = 4,050 annuities + 45,000 × 0.75% = 337.50 SANED = 4,387.50 SAR. Employer share: 4,050 annuities + 337.50 SANED + 45,000 × 2% = 900 hazards = 5,287.50 SAR. Net salary = 47,000 − 4,387.50 = 42,612.50 SAR.

Non-Saudi Employee — No Salary Deduction

Mohammed is a non-Saudi employee with a basic salary of 5,000 SAR and housing of 1,500 SAR = 6,500 SAR. No amount is deducted from the non-Saudi employee's salary (employee share = 0). The employer pays only 2% for occupational hazards = 6,500 × 2% = 130 SAR. Mohammed's net salary = 6,500 SAR in full.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the salary ceiling for GOSI contributions?
The maximum salary subject to GOSI contributions is 45,000 SAR per month. Any amount above this ceiling is not subject to social insurance deductions.
Does GOSI apply to part-time workers?
Part-time workers may be registered in GOSI depending on their contract terms, but they are not automatically enrolled in all insurance branches unless the contract explicitly states so.
What is the difference between GOSI and SANED?
GOSI covers pensions and occupational hazards, while SANED is the unemployment insurance system exclusively for Saudi nationals. SANED contribution is 1.5%, split equally between employee and employer (0.75% each).
How is housing allowance treated in GOSI calculations?
Housing allowance is added to the basic salary to form the contribution base. The formula is: basic salary + housing allowance, capped at 45,000 SAR. Other allowances like transport and bonuses are excluded.
Can non-Saudis benefit from GOSI?
The employer pays only 2% for non-Saudi employees to cover occupational hazards, with no deduction from the employee's salary. Non-Saudis are not eligible for retirement pensions but receive compensation for work-related injuries.
What happens to GOSI when changing jobs?
The new employer must process the employee transfer through the GOSI system to ensure contribution history continuity. Failure to complete the transfer properly may affect the employee's future benefit entitlements.
Have GOSI contribution rates changed recently?
Yes. Under the new Social Insurance Law (effective July 3, 2025), Saudis first registered after July 3, 2024 have a pension rate that rises gradually from 9% to 11% (0.5% per year) through July 2028 — so the total employee deduction is 10.25% in 2025 and steps up thereafter. Employees registered before that date keep the existing 9.75% total (9% annuities + 0.75% SANED), which is what this calculator shows.
