End-of-service gratuity in Qatar (2026)

End-of-service gratuity in Qatar's private sector is governed by Article 54 of Labour Law No. 14 of 2004. It is payable to anyone who has completed at least one year of continuous service and is based on the last basic wage.

How it is calculated (Article 54)

  • 3 weeks (21 days) of wage for each year of service, at a flat rate for all years.

This is the statutory minimum; a higher gratuity may be agreed. Article 54 sets no maximum cap, and partial years are pro-rated after the first qualifying year.

Reason for leaving

The gratuity is paid in full whether you are dismissed, resign, or your contract expires. The only exception is dismissal for one of the gross-misconduct grounds in Article 61, where it may be forfeited.

Note: Qatar's 2020 reforms (minimum wage and the removal of the No-Objection Certificate) did not change the gratuity formula — it remains as set out in Article 54.

Calculation Methodology

Wage used in the calculation

The calculator uses the monthly salary you enter as the calculation base. In some systems this may be basic wage only, while in others it may include actual wage or fixed allowances; enter the wage basis that matches your country and contract.

Service period conversion

The calculator converts years and months of service into a proportional period, then applies the days or months owed per year according to the country and termination reason.

Reason employment ended

The result changes for resignation, employer termination, or contract end. Some laws reduce or deny gratuity for certain service periods. Check the legal reference on the page for final treatment.

Practical Examples

End of service after 5 years — 12,000 QAR salary

Mohammed earned a basic salary of 12,000 QAR and his service ended after 5 years. Gratuity: 5 × (12,000 ÷ 30) × 21 = 42,000 QAR No statutory cap under Article 54. Entitlement = 42,000 QAR

Resignation after 10 years — 8,000 QAR salary

Fatima earned a basic salary of 8,000 QAR and resigned after 10 years. Gratuity: 10 × (8,000 ÷ 30) × 21 = 56,000 QAR No statutory cap under Article 54. Paid in full (no resignation reduction in Qatar) = 56,000 QAR
